Semi truck tips over on Arizona freeway

A semi truck accident near the border of Arizona and New Mexico caused a scare for many drivers during their morning commute today. The wreck occurred on Interstate 40 in an area where icy conditions were reported. However, at this time, it is not clear if ice (or weather in general) played a role in the accident.

What is known at this time is that a large semi truck suddenly toppled over on the freeway. The spilled rig closed the freeway for a time, but was eventually reopened. The police will investigate the truck accident as they try to figure out what could have caused the massive vehicle to suddenly tip over.

In the wake of an overturned semi truck, a few parties will be investigated. The driver and his or her credentials will be checked, as well as the state of mind the driver was in when he or she was driving. The truck itself will then come under scrutiny. Was the cargo properly secured? Did the vehicle exceed its weight limit, therefore making it more likely for the truck to tip over? Was it well maintained, or did it have a recent tune up?

Then the truck company itself will be investigated. Their track record and safety policies will be looked at, as well as their protocols for ensuring that their drivers do not work too many shifts or hours in a row. There are rest laws in place to make sure that truck drivers get enough time off to safely operate their vehicles.
