Truck and train collide in downtown Phoenix, at least 7 injured

An unfortunate and uncommon motor vehicle accident in downtown Phoenix, Arizona occurred over the weekend, leaving many people with injuries. The wreck was between a commercial truck and a metro light rail train. Both of the vehicles were travelling in the same direction -- southbound -- when the truck tried to make a left turn, apparently in front of the train. The two vehicles collided as a result, and at least seven people suffered injuries.

Three of the accident victims suffered injuries that were serious enough that they needed hospitalization, but it does not appear that the injuries were life-threatening. The four other injured people did not go to the hospital for their injuries.

There are a couple of lessons to learn from this story, and the first is that any accident victim should accept medical care for their injuries after the crash. Even the most insignificant injuries should be taken care of by medical professionals. The last thing you want to do is "tough it out" and miss out on the chance to not only expedite your recovery from the injury, but also the chance to have your injuries medically recorded -- a record that could prove useful should you file a lawsuit.

The other lesson is that trucks are difficult to operate and they have large blind spots. This makes them accident-prone, and when they are involved in an accident, the first question that must be asked is "what was the driver doing prior to the wreck?" Did the driver check his mirrors and blind spots to the best of his abilities? Was he operating the vehicle in a safe manner? If the driver didn't, he or she could be held liable for his or her negligence.
