A tragic wreck in Phoenix involved a semi truck, left a motorcyclist dead and had police searching for the driver of another truck after that vehicle spilled objects onto the road and left the scene.
The accident is still muddled at this time, but what is known is that numerous containers fell out of the flatbed of a pickup truck on Interstate 17 yesterday. That caused a motorcyclist to swerve in an attempt to avoid the falling materials, but it wasn’t enough. A semi truck crashed into the motorcyclist and also hit another vehicle carrying six people. A massive fireball engulfed the accident scene (possibly because of the materials that fell off the pickup truck, but that is unclear at this time).
Two people in the other vehicle involved in the crash were rushed to the hospital, and the semi truck driver survived — but the motorcyclist suffered catastrophic injuries and did not survive. The police are now searching for the driver of the pickup truck, who may not have been aware that objects fell out of his or her vehicle. Nonetheless, the investigation is proceeding and if the driver is found, he or she could be in a lot of trouble.
People have a responsibility to remain at the scene of an accident is that they can help the victims and also answer the questions of emergency responders. Here, we may have a gray area — but the driver of the pickup likely heard or saw what happened behind him or her.
