No sleep in 24 hours for trucker involved in Morgan crash

| Jun 9, 2014 | Truck Accidents

As many Phoenix residents have heard by now, famed comedian Tracy Morgan has suffered serious injuries in a motor vehicle accident that was caused by a truck driver. The crash was fatal, killing at least one person and leaving several people, including Morgan, with serious or catastrophic injuries. Today new allegations were made about the truck driver, who was released on $50,000 bail. Apparently he had not slept in 24 hours, thus contributing to his inability to stay a safe distance away from upcoming vehicles and directly contributing to the wreck.

The prosecutor involved in the case made the allegations today, and the truck driver will face myriad criminal charges involved with the fatal truck accident.

This is the unfortunate reality with many truck accidents: the truck driver lacks the sleep necessary to perform his or her job adequately. Even with sleep or rest laws on the books that are supposed to ensure that drivers are in a good state of mind before getting behind the wheel of a multi-ton mass of metal, truckers and truck companies will sometimes violate these laws. The truck may manipulate his hours or blatantly disregard them, and the truck company may perform similar duties on their end to ensure their logbooks make it look like a driver is within the confines of the law — even though that driver isn’t.

This negligence contributes to many truck accidents around the country, and it causes innocent people to needlessly suffer as a result. Holding these irresponsible drivers and/or truck companies accountable for their negligence can be crucial for the victims of a truck accident or their loved ones.
