An astonishing and tragic motor vehicle accident near Phoenix Arizona claimed the lives of two people and left another eight with life-threatening injuries. Three others were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, and the police are investigating the crash to try to figure out how such a complex accident occurred (three vehicles and 15 people were involved in total).
There are suspicions that speed and rapid lane changes were involved in the build up to the crash. This would make it seem like street racing or some other form of reckless driving was taking place between all of the vehicles. The police don’t know yet if drugs or alcohol were involved in any way with the crash.
Street racing is an issue in Phoenix. Sure, this could apply anywhere in the country, but it is a particularly common event here. We’ve written about this before. Street racing is incredibly dangerous and absolutely reckless. There is a chance that innocent bystanders become involved in a wreck, and when that happens you get truly tragic circumstances.
There are really only two things to say when it comes to street racing. The first is for those who do street racing: just don’t. It puts your life at risk, as well as anyone else participating with you and innocent people who just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Street racing will also lead to some serious consequences for you personally if you’re caught.
The other lesson here is for people who are victimized by street racing. You may not want to think about it now, but you have legal options to hold the negligent drivers who caused your injuries responsible for what they did.
