Car, motorcycle involved in scary Phoenix wreck

A motor vehicle accident between a car and a motorcycle has left the motorcyclist in "extremely critical" condition and police searching the accident scene for clues about how the wreck occurred. The crash happened at an intersection, and some brief video footage makes it seem as though the car struck the motorcycle with the front of the vehicle.

The police are investigating the wreck and have no answers at this time. However, there are a few things to consider here. The first is that this wreck happened at an intersection, which is common. Intersections have a lot going on, and it can be difficult for some drivers to safely navigate through busy intersections. As a result, accidents can occur -- but that doesn't excuse the wreck by any means.

Second, cars striking motorcycles is far too common, and it begs the question as to whether many drivers respect motorcyclist or if they were even properly trained about looking out for motorcycles. Motorcycles may be a bit more difficult to see, but it's not like they are invisible or microscopic. Every driver needs to check their blind spots and their mirrors before making a move in traffic. Not looking out for motorcyclist is bad because...

... motorcycles are disproportionately affected by accidents, which is our third and last lesson from this wreck. Motorcyclists routinely suffer extreme injuries that are difficult to recover from, both physically and financially. Any motorcyclist that is injured in a crash should consider legal action if another driver is found to be negligent in or liable for the crash.
