Many people less likely to drive drunk thanks to Uber, Lyft

One of the most infuriating types of motor vehicle accidents that continues to occur is drunk driving accidents. People consume too much alcohol, and then they make the terrible decision to get behind the wheel of a car. They cause an accident, and then many lives are changed as a result of the serious or fatal injuries inflicted in the accident.

On a somewhat unrelated note (at least until you hear about the study), ride-sharing companies have become incredibly popular over the last few years. People are using them all the time now, and this has made it easier for people to get around.

Now, just combine these two topics and you have the basis of a new study performed by Mothers Against Drunk Driving. The organization interviewed people about ride-sharing apps such as Uber and Lyft, and what effect these companies had on their tendency to drive after consuming alcohol. 78 percent said that thanks to ride-sharing, they are less likely to drive drunk.

This is incredible news, and it really shows that inventive new transportation methods can have a dramatic impact on a long-time problem on the road. However, there are still plenty of people out there getting behind the wheel of a car when they have had far too much to drink. If you are injured by one of these people, you need to consult with a personal injury attorney immediately. The compensation garnered from a civil lawsuit in the wake of a drunk driving crash can be vital to help victims pay for medical bills and recovery.
